Unfortunately, this did not happen with the Aral Sea, which did not look like its outlines on old and even modern school maps, almost dried up and disintegrated for anthropogenic reasons - as a result of human activity in the second half of the 20th century. It must be taken into account, of course, that this case in addition to a fair share of environmental ignorance in the 50s and 60s, the need for an accelerated post-war recovery and development of the economy and, consequently, increased exploitation of nature also affected.
An alarming situation has developed on Lake Ladoga - the largest reservoir of fresh water in Europe. Lake Ladoga really delivers drinking water to a much larger number of people than Baikal, but it is on the verge of biological necrosis due to its intensive industrial exploitation.
And now, completing the subtopic of mechanical and chemical pollution, with heavy and gloomy strokes lying on the picture of the ecocrisis, let's try abstractly and speculatively, but not without real grounds, to bring the matter to some kind of "dystopia", referring to all the same Siberia and, to the greatest happiness, not which already has a chance to become a reality. At the end of the 40s, a project arose to turn to the arid regions of Kazakhstan and Central Asia the great Siberian rivers - Irtysh, Ob, Yenisei, which "uselessly" flow into the Arctic Ocean, swamping the entire Western Siberia. However, their “complete” turn would turn Western Siberia into a continuous and centuries-old peat fire, visible far beyond our planet, just as astronomers have been observing the Great Red Spot of Jupiter for more than a hundred years, which is a stable gas swirl. And next to this fire, the Arctic Ocean would freeze to the bottom in the coastal zone, which would lead not only to blocking the Northern Sea Route, but also to a sharp cooling in the European part of the country. The earthly "great red spot" in the middle of the white plains would be a long-term monument to the raging elements of the unreasonable transformation of nature.
