What prayers should be read every day for everyone Orthodox people? Whatever prayer rule you follow, it will always include a few basic Christian prayers. First of all, this is the Trisagion (prayer to the Holy Trinity), the Symbol of Faith, Our Father, Virgin Mary, rejoice, a prayer to the Guardian Angel, a prayer to your saint.

The daily morning rule of prayer also necessarily includes the commemoration of relatives and friends, the living and the dead, friends and enemies who hate and offended us. In the evening prayers every day we thank God for the day we have lived. We ask for forgiveness for the sins committed intentionally and involuntarily, for the peace and health of loved ones.

Our Father...

Our Father. Thou art in heaven! Yes, shine your name;
let your kingdom come; Thy will be done, as in heaven and on earth;
give us our daily bread today;
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one;
for yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Prayer for the remission of sins

From the depths of my soul I cry to you, Lord, on this day. With tears, I fall down to You and exclaim: be merciful and philanthropic to me, who only puts my hope in You! Grant me to avoid Your future wrath, which threatens all the lawless. Exterminate my fruitless thoughts with the fire of your Holy Spirit. Do not give me as food to the fire, like straw, but like wheat, gather me together, my God! Accept the prayer of my unclean lips, sinless Savior my! You are the Almighty, deliver me from my iniquities! I rejected your life-giving commandments, I was tempted by vile vices. I beg You, my Lord, who created me by His will and for no reason loved me to such an extent that for my sake You incarnated and suffered death!

But I forgot your boundless love, became a slave to pleasures, defiled my soul and body, daily I repent of sins - and I do not stop committing them. You, Father, have your Son without beginning, you have your co-eternal Spirit, giving to all the breath of life. Triune God, full of bounty and goodness, through the prayers of our Most Pure Lady Theotokos, through the prayers of the prophets, apostles, martyrs and reverends, grant me remission of my sins, for You are philanthropic and many-merciful, and all honor and worship is due to you now, always and forever centuries. Amen.

A short daily prayer to the Holy Spirit

Soul Holy! Fill the whole universe with yourself, and give life to everyone, move away from the bad people, I humbly pray to you: do not disdain the impurity of my soul, but come and dwell in me and cleanse me from all sinful filth. Yes, with Your help, I will live the rest of my life in repentance and doing good deeds, and so I will glorify Thee with the Father and the Son forever and ever. Amen.

Orthodox daily prayer to the Holy Spirit
Heavenly King, Comforter, Soul of Truth. Who is everywhere and fills everything, Treasury of the good and the Giver of life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save, O Blessed, our souls.

Daily prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary

Holy Mother of God save us! The intercession and cover of my life I suppose Thee, the Mother of God of the Virgin. You feed me to Your haven, the good ones are guilty, the affirmations are true, the All-Petered is one. Holy Mother of God, save us!

I pray, Virgo, to destroy my storm of spiritual confusion and sorrow: You, O God-bred, gave birth to the head of Christ's silence, the only Most Pure One. Glory: Benefactor relatives, good guilty, good deeds wealthsource to all, all we can, as if strong in the fortress of Christ, born, God-blessed. And now: Violent ailments and painful passions are tortured, Virgo, You help me: healing is not scarce. I know the treasure, Immaculate, indestructible. Save Thy servants from troubles, Mother of God, Like all according to Bose, we resort to you, like an indestructible wall and intercession. Look with mercy, all-singing Mother of God, on my fierce body, anger and heal my soul, my disease.

Orthodox prayer for every day - May God rise again

Let God arise, and let His enemies be scattered, and let those who hate Him flee from His face. As the smoke disappears, let them disappear; As wax melts from the face of fire, so let the demons die from the presence of those who love God, and are marked by the sign of the cross, and say in joy: Rejoice, Most Honorable and Life-giving Cross of the Lord, drive away the demons by the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, crucified on you, descended into hell, and who corrected the power of the devil, and gave us to you, His Honest Cross, to drive out every adversary. Oh, Most Honorable and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord, help me with the Holy Lady of the Virgin Mary and with all the saints forever. Amen.

In addition to the main prayers, other prayers may also be included in the daily Orthodox prayer rule ...

Saint Ignatius (Bryanchaninov) wrote in his Teaching on the Rule of Prayer: “The rule! What an exact name, borrowed from the very action produced on a person by prayers, called the rule! The rule of prayer directs the soul correctly and holily, teaches it to worship God in Spirit and Truth (John 4:23), while the soul, being left to itself, could not follow the right path of prayer. Because of her damage and darkening by sin, she would be constantly seduced to the sides, often into an abyss, now into absent-mindedness, now into daydreaming, then into various empty and deceptive phantoms of high prayerful states composed by her vanity and voluptuousness.

The prayer rules keep the worshiper in a saving disposition, humility and repentance, teaching him unceasing self-condemnation, nourishing him with compunction, strengthening him with hope in the All-Good and All-Merciful God, amusing him with the peace of Christ, love for God and for neighbors.

From these words of the saint it is clear that it is very salutary to read the morning and evening prayer rule. It spiritually pulls a person out of the turmoil of night dreams or daytime worries and places him before God. And the human soul enters into communion with its Creator. The grace of the Holy Spirit descends on a person, brings him into the necessary repentant mood, gives him inner peace and harmony, drives away demons from him (“This kind is cast out only by prayer and fasting” (Matt. 17:21), sends God’s blessing and strength to him especially since the prayers were written by holy people: Saints Basil the Great and John Chrysostom, the Monk Macarius the Great, etc. That is, the very structure of the rule is very useful for the human soul.

Therefore, of course, reading the daily morning and evening prayer rule, so to speak, is a necessary minimum for an Orthodox Christian. And it doesn't take much time. For someone who has entered the skill of reading, it takes about twenty minutes in the morning and the same amount in the evening.

If you do not have time to read the morning rule all at once, then break it into several parts. “Hat” from the beginning to “Lord have mercy” (12 times), inclusive, can, for example, be read at home; the following prayers - during breaks in work or their daily activities. In this, of course, you need to confess, but it's better than not reading at all. We are all people, and it is clear that we are very sinful and busy. The ending morning prayers Also, you control yourself. This concerns the commemorator. You can read the extended commemoration or the abbreviated one. At your discretion, depending on the time available.

A fairly common mistake of a novice Orthodox Christian is to read the evening prayer rule just before going to bed. You sway, stagger, mumble the words of a prayer, and you yourself think about how to lie down in bed under a warm blanket and fall asleep. So it turns out - not prayer, but torment. Obligatory hard labor before going to bed.

In fact, the evening prayer rule is read somewhat differently. Hegumen Nikon (Vorobiev) wrote that after evening prayers, you can leave time to talk and drink tea.

That is, in fact, you can read the evening prayer rule from the beginning to the prayer of St. John of Damascus “Lord Lover of Humanity ...” If you, dear brothers and sisters, have paid attention, then before this prayer there is a prayer of forgiveness: “Lord Jesus Christ, Son God... have mercy on us. Amen". It really is a vacation. You can read the evening prayers before him, inclusive, long before bedtime: at six, seven, eight o'clock in the evening. Then go about your daily evening activities. You can still eat and drink tea, as Father Nikon said, to chat with loved ones.

And already starting with the prayer “Lord Lover of Man…” and to the end, the rule is read immediately before going to bed. During the prayer "Let God rise again" you need to cross yourself and you can cross your bed and house on the four cardinal points (starting from Orthodox tradition from the east), protecting themselves, loved ones and their homes with the sign of the cross from all evil.

After reading the second half of the evening prayers, nothing is eaten or drunk. In the prayer "In Your hands, Lord ..." you ask for a blessing from God on good dream and commit your soul to Him. After that, you should go to bed.

I would also like to draw your attention, dear brothers and sisters, to the rule Reverend Seraphim Sarovsky. Many understand it as three readings per day (morning, afternoon, evening) of certain prayers “Our Father” (three times), “Virgin Mother of God, rejoice ...” (three times) and the Creed (once). But it is not so. In addition to reading the rule three times, St. Seraphim said that a person in the first half of the day should read the Jesus Prayer almost all the time or, if people are around, in the mind, “Lord, have mercy,” and after dinner, instead of the Jesus prayer, “Most Holy Theotokos, save me, a sinner."

That is, Saint Seraphim offers a person a spiritual exercise in uninterrupted prayer, and not just a relief from the evening and morning prayer rule. You can, of course, read a prayer according to the rule of St. Seraphim of Sarov, but only then you need to follow all the instructions of the great elder.

Therefore, I repeat once again, the morning and evening prayer rule is a necessary minimum for an Orthodox Christian.

I would also like to draw your attention, dear brothers and sisters, to a fairly common mistake that we often make.

St. Ignatius warns us about it in the above-mentioned work: it is necessary to make both the rules and bows with the possible slowness and attention. It is better to read less prayers and bow less, but with attention, than a lot and without attention.

Choose for yourself a rule corresponding to the forces. What the Lord said about the Sabbath, that it is for man, and not man for her (Mark 2:27), can and should be attributed to all pious deeds, as well as to the rule of prayer. A prayer rule is for a person, and not a person is for a rule: it should contribute to the achievement of spiritual prosperity by a person, and not serve as an unbearable burden (a burdensome duty), crushing bodily strength and embarrassing the soul. Moreover, it should not serve as a pretext for proud and pernicious conceit, pernicious condemnation of loved ones and humiliation of neighbors.

The Monk Nicodemus the Holy Mountaineer in the book “Invisible Warfare” wrote: “... There are many clergy who deprive themselves of the saving fruit of the world from their spiritual deeds by prolonging them, believing that they will suffer damage if they do not bring them to the end, in false confidence , of course, that spiritual perfection consists in this. Following their will in this way, they work hard and torment themselves, but do not receive true peace and inner peace, in which God truly finds and rests.

That is, we need to calculate our strength in prayer. You should sit down and think about the time that everyone has. If, for example, you are a freight forwarder in a trading company and are on the road from morning to night, or you are married, work and you also need to devote time to your husband, children, organize family life, then maybe the morning and evening prayer rule is enough for you and the reading of two chapters of the "Apostle", a chapter of the gospel daily. Because if you also take upon yourself the reading of various akathists, several kathismas, then you will not have time to live. And if you are a pensioner or work somewhere as a security guard or at another job, having free time, then why not read akathists and kathismas.

Explore yourself, your time, your capabilities, your strengths. Measure the prayer rule with your life so that it is not a burden, but a joy. Because it is better to read fewer prayers, but with heartfelt attention, than a lot, but thoughtlessly, mechanically. Prayer has power when you listen and read it with your whole being. Then the life-giving spring of communion with God will surge in our hearts.

Priest Andrei Chizhenko

Unfortunately, the faith of many people is limited to the phrases "Lord, help" and "". Moreover, the pronunciation of sayings is not always associated with memories of the Almighty. This is very sad. This situation needs to be corrected. After all, without God's blessing it is not supposed to start a single business. To get started, learn the basic Orthodox prayers or at least read them according to the prayer book until they are deposited in memory.

Three main prayers of Orthodox believers

There are a lot of prayers, and they all have their own classification, some should be read before starting any business, others at the end, there are morning and evening prayers, thanksgiving and penitential, before eating food and as a follow-up to the sacrament. But there are three main prayers that you cannot do without, they are the most important and necessary. They can be read in any situation, regardless of what events occurred. If suddenly you really need to ask for help from the Almighty, but you couldn’t pick up the right words, then one of the three prayers will be an excellent assistance.

1. "Our Father". According to the Holy Gospel, this "Our Father" was given by Jesus to his disciples, who asked him to teach them how to pray. God Himself allowed people to call him father and proclaimed the entire human race to be his sons. In this prayer, the Christian finds salvation and receives the grace of God.

2. "Symbol of Faith". Prayer united the fundamental dogmas of the Christian faith. Aspects are accepted by believers without requiring proof and repeat the story of how Jesus Christ was embodied in a human form, appeared to the world, was crucified in the name of delivering people from the burden of original sin, and resurrected on the third day as a symbol of victory over death.

3. Prayer to the Lord Jesus. Appeal to Jesus Christ as the Son of God and proof of your faith in him as the true God. With this prayer, believers ask for help and protection from the Lord.

Whatever happens, at any time of the day or night, remember the name of the Lord your God. Praise his name for every deed of God and for the given opportunity to live another bright and joyful day. And having asked something from our Creator, do not forget later to thank our quick helper and intercessor.

Ten Important Prayers for Religious Believers

It is impossible to imagine the day of the pilgrimage without the "Our Father" or the "Symbol of Faith". But there are, albeit secondary, but still the same basic Orthodox prayers, from which daily and evening prayers are made up. People find comfort in turning to the Creator. One has only to start reading the prayer book, as life will immediately become easier and easier. For there is no power more philanthropic and all-forgiving than the pure love of the Lord God.

Before the prayer begins, one more prayer should be learned, the initial one (, Son of God, prayers for the sake of Your Most Pure Mother and all the saints, have mercy on us. Amen. Glory to Thee, our God, glory to Thee). It is read after the Publican's prayer, but before everyone else. Speaking in ordinary language, this is a kind of introduction to a dialogue with the Almighty.

Basic Orthodox prayers are the first step on the religious ladder leading along the path to a pious life. Over time, other prayers will be studied. All of them are delightful and beautiful, as they are endowed with great love for God and a great desire to believe, hope, repent, endure, forgive and love.

"My angel, come with me: you are in front, I am behind you." And the Guardian Angel will help you in any endeavor.

To improve your life, it is good to read the following prayer daily:
"Gracious Lord, in the name of Jesus Christ and by the Power of the Holy Spirit, save me, save and have mercy on me, the servant of God (name). Remove damage from me, the evil eye and bodily pain forever. Lord, merciful, cast out the demon from me, the servant of God. Lord, merciful, heal me, a servant of God (name). Amen."

If you have anxiety for loved ones, say the following prayer until peace comes:

They do not reach God and how to make requests to the Almighty. Learn how to pray at home, and how to properly ask for health for children.

Many people quite often wonder why their appeals to the Lord go unanswered. After all, it seems to them that they did everything right and do not understand why desires are not fulfilled and help (in their opinion) does not come. It is possible that in fact the applicants did not observe important points. Which? We will talk about this now.

How to make a request to God

Remember that each prayer ritual must begin with its own cleansing. To do this, you need to wake up in the morning and get out of bed, first of all, from the bottom of your heart, say “thank you” to the Lord for allowing you to spend a calm night and wake up in the morning. Express gratitude for the new day and what good it can bring.

Then go to wash, avoiding negativity or irritation. When you feel that you are in complete harmony with yourself, you should think about what kind of request for this moment time is the most relevant to you. Since it is not customary to disturb God over trifles in the Orthodox religion. Consider several options and choose the most urgent.

Remember that it is categorically impossible to ask the Lord for the death of your loved ones and punishment for offenders. It is believed that the Almighty himself will figure out when and whom to punish him. In the event that you decide to conduct the ceremony at home, this should be done at the icons placed in the so-called "red corner". If there are no sacred images, then you can pray, looking out the window at the sky.

How to pray at home

Prayers at home should place the main emphasis on the peaceful state in which they need to be during the ritual. You should light a candle and kneel, mentally asking for help from God, the Mother of God or that saint whose intercession you are counting on.

It is necessary to talk with the heavenly Lord with sincere feeling, not to rush and not to forget about prostrations. Thus, you will show the humility of your own pride and readiness to accept any will of the Almighty and his angels. After completing the ceremony and before leaving the house, you need to renounce Satan, who lies in wait for a person beyond the threshold with his temptations. Say: “Depart, enemy, with your pride and squander in the name of our Lord. Amen. Amen. Amen".

How to pray to God to hear

Those who wish to convey their requests to the heavenly Master should remember the prayer rule of the famous Saint Seraphim of Sarov. According to him, in the morning you need to wash yourself, cross yourself and say “Our Father” three times, a prayer to the Virgin and the Creed.

In the event that a person cannot remember a church text, Orthodoxy does not forbid praying in his own words. As they say in the message of St. Seraphim, if the words come from a pure heart, then they will certainly be heard. Especially if before that a person asked for health for all his loved ones, benefactors and even enemies.

Correct prayers for children

There are a large number of prayer rules that are intended for different people. They vary depending on who is praying - a clergyman, a monk, a common man, a man, a woman or a child.

In the event that parents pray for their children, they must observe the main rule - to repent of their sinful deeds, and only then proceed to ask for mercy for their children. The well-known expression, “the sins of the fathers fall on the children up to the seventh generation,” requires parents to try to take care of their spiritual perfection. Therefore, you first need to repent of the past and then, with pure thoughts, ask the Lord to send the child health, the ability to understand book wisdom, obedience, etc. It would also be appropriate to ask the Mother of God for intercession and read the appropriate prayer. Good luck and don't forget to press the buttons and

Prayer is not just a set of phrases in the Old Slavonic language, but our conversation with God. While doing it, we talk with Him, ask for help and participation in our daily life. Prayer is the only accessible means to communicate with God. You cannot see or hear it with your own eyes, but you can feel how life changes for the better. In this article, we will try to figure out how to pray correctly so that God hears our appeal to him.

Let's figure it out

First of all, it is worth mentioning that in order for the prayer to work and be heard by the Almighty, you need to think about what you are saying. You can turn to God in your own words, but it is better to support your speech with phrases from Holy Scripture as well. By saying them, we show that we accept His teachings and instructions in our lives. Prayer, in which you rely on the words of God, can bring positive changes to a person in all areas of life or in something specific, if the believer asks God for it.

Prayer is a kind of conversation between us and the Lord. When we communicate with other people and build dialogues with them, we not only endlessly talk ourselves, but also listen to the interlocutor. Therefore, it is not enough to memorize a prayer, you need to try to hear the answer from Him, which does not always come right away. This may happen in a few hours or days, but it will certainly happen.

When a person understands how to pray correctly so that God hears, and approaches this responsibly, he will definitely feel that this is not just a mandatory ritual, but something more.

The Saints

An appeal to the Saints is a sincere request for help in any matter. Therefore, to the question of believers about how to pray to the Saints correctly, any clergyman will answer: "Based on the same principles that must be used when addressing God."

To do this, you need to discard pretense, focus on words and try not to think about extraneous things. All attention should be directed to the Saint to whom you are addressing. Focus on what and what you are asking for. You need to speak sincerely, listening to every word, thinking it over. Before making a request, be sure to ask for forgiveness for your sins, and repeat the prayer itself several times. After reading it, you need to bow in front of the icon at which you prayed and thank the Saint for his help.

Holy Matrona

She holds a special place among the Saints as one of the most revered. She herself spoke about how to pray to Matrona in order to be heard during her lifetime, urging people to visit her grave even after death and talk about everything as if she were alive. She also insisted that people never change their faith, live according to God's commandments and take part in the saving Church sacraments. Among believers, a special tradition has developed: it is imperative to bring fresh flowers to the grave of this Saint, which Matrona loved very much during her lifetime.

How to pray for God to hear at home?

There are a number of rules that tell about this. Prayers are read in the morning, before going to bed, as well as before and after meals. In any temple you can buy prayer books, where there are texts intended for home reading. If there are icons in the house, then you should read in front of them.

Try to attend church at least on weekends. Prayers uttered in the temple are more powerful than home prayers.

Conclusion

How to pray so that God hears? If you follow the above rules, then help will definitely come, and the Almighty will not leave you in life's adversity.

Solving their vital questions, everyone can ask themselves the question: what is the right way for God to hear? Especially if the problem requires a quick solution or is vital to you. First of all, the right attitude and the very desire of a person are important here. And in order to tune in to turning to God, you need to formulate your question correctly and start praying with pure thoughts.

How to tune in

First of all, you need to put your thoughts and feelings in order. Often the solution of an important issue that is currently tormenting you is hindered by some sin or deed, a desire for evil to another, or condemnation of a person in a similar situation. For example, you condemned an acquaintance who was left without a job and lives on the money of his parents, and after a few days or years you yourself were laid off. Or a woman condemned her friend for living with a married man, and after a while she herself fell into the same networks. Therefore, if you are currently in an unpleasant situation for which another person was judged, you should think about why this happened, and mentally or financially ask for forgiveness from him, give him a gift, just something nice. This is one of the rules on how to pray at home correctly if you want God to hear you.

There is another circumstance that prevents the prayer from being heard by higher powers. This is often associated with a violation of causal relationships or conscious adherence to a destructive pattern of behavior. For example, a woman who earns fornication may ask for a successful marriage without changing her behavior, or wish to break up the family of a married person, especially if he is in a church marriage. As a rule, all the troubles of such a life will not disappear even after sincere prayer, if you do not change your lifestyle. A prime example such an appeal is the so-called blessing for theft or a request for the material well-being of a thief or bandit. God does not accept such prayers and can send punishment for bad behavior. So, if there is a serious sin, it is better to repent of it, stop doing what is impossible, and try to reconsider your own behavior.

Well, the third reason that can interfere with successful prayer is the insincerity of words, wishing someone evil or a karmic moment that you need to go through. But how to pray at home so that God hears? To do this, you need to confess your sins, wish good to evil people and your enemies, and tune in to prayer. Before her, it is undesirable to drink alcohol, smoke or have sex. Also, do not talk a lot, especially about unimportant things. It is best to read prayers in the evening, in front of the icon and light a candle. Then your prayer will be answered. And, of course, you should not pray while doing household chores or during a break between everyday affairs.

How to pray

How to pray at home so that God hears? Be sincere, do not wish harm to anyone in prayers and try to be patient if the result does not come quickly. Remember that God hears any prayer, but does not answer it for everyone and not always. Therefore, you need to sincerely believe in God's help and try to wait for it. Perhaps you will receive it tomorrow or in six months or a year. , then the result is sure to be.

For a long time there has been a permanent section on the Foma magazine website. Each reader is welcome to receive the priest's personal response. But some of the questions cannot be answered in one letter - they require a detailed conversation. Some time ago, an interesting question came to us “” ().

We asked Archpriest Pavel Velikanov and Alexander Tkachenko, a permanent author of Thomas, to respond to this letter.

Archpriest Pavel Velikanov, rector of the Pyatnitsky Metochion of the Holy Trinity Sergius Lavra, answers the reader’s question, Chief Editor portal

1. A good prayer always has a reliable source.

Most prayer books contain prayers written by holy people and verified by centuries of experience in the practice of church life. These prayers help to tune the soul to the right tone of communication with the Lord God and the saints. But often people are looking for "simple" and "accessible" prayers, through which they expect to solve some personal problems.

A large part of the prayers aimed at satisfying certain practical needs - for example, about the birth of children, about marriage, about success at work - was written in response to such a request. It is not at all obvious that the authors of these prayers are holy, spiritually experienced people. Almost all “tested by experience” prayers have an author. And in recent times"Anonymous" prayers, compiled by no one knows who and where, often written with the grossest dogmatic errors and with wrong moral, spiritual attitudes, are becoming more and more.

Books in which prayer books are printed should be marked “Recommended for publication by the Publishing Council of the Russian Orthodox Church". With this stamp, the Church itself guarantees that the content of the prayers corresponds to the tradition of the spiritual life of the Orthodox Church. You can also find books with the stamp "Approved for publication by the Publishing Council of the Russian Orthodox Church." Such a stamp means that there will be nothing in this prayer book that violates the inner world of a person or contradicts Christian doctrine, but at the same time, prayers that do not have general church recognition can be found in it.

Prayers found on the Internet, be sure to check on print media, which have these vultures. There are many sites that distribute prayers of very dubious content.

2. Don't get carried away looking for new prayers

It is important to remember that the most important and most the right prayer Christian - Eucharistic (that is, the central and most important part of the Liturgy, during which the sacrament of the Divine Eucharist is performed). This is not asking God for some blessings for yourself and for your loved ones. This is participation in the establishment of the Kingdom of God here and now - which happens when we serve the Liturgy, when we take communion, when we become able to contain the fire of the Divine and bring it to the world around us. A person who loves and understands the service will not be looking for or inventing some new prayers to satisfy any of his specific requests, because everything that a person can ask from God - and even more - is in our divine services.

3. Strive to pray together within the walls of the temple

Joint prayers, or the so-called prayers by agreement, outside the walls of the temple are possible and desirable in two cases: first, if it is the prayer of the “small Church”, the family, and second, if for one reason or another it is not possible to pray in the temple (illness, long distance And so on). If people, without serious reasons, without the blessing of a priest, gather at someone’s apartment or agree to read prayers at the same time, the question arises: why can’t this be done in a temple, led by a priest?

It is important to understand: in the literal sense of the word, by agreement, we pray when we come to the temple for service. We are going “to the church” (1 Cor 11:18) - and through joint prayer, participation in the Liturgy, we become a Eucharistic community. You should also not forget that in addition to the main, liturgical, prayer, prayers, akathists, requiems and other services are performed in churches, which should not be neglected either.

4. The result of prayer is humility and obedience, not complacency and selfishness

By its very nature, prayer should bring a person closer to God. What does it mean? God is holy. Accordingly, the approach to God is the approach to holiness. The fruit of real, correct prayer will be expressed in the appearance of two things. The first is the desire to obey God, that is, obedience. The second is humility, that is, an understanding of one's powerlessness in the matter of salvation, and an acute need for God's help in all other matters. Humility is not self-abasement, not the pleasure of feeling always and in everything to blame. This is the aspiration from yourself to God and surrendering yourself into the hands of God so that He comes and begins to manage your life in the way He sees fit.

If a person, as a result of his prayer, becomes self-satisfied, selfish and the cocoon of self-sufficiency does not collapse in him, this is an incorrect, false prayer.

5. There can be no self-excitation in prayer

If during prayer we fall into excessive emotionality, tearfulness, a state of tenderness, "soulfulness" - it is quite possible that we are on direct way to what in Orthodoxy is called "charm" - a state of spiritual "short circuit" on oneself, self-deception. In such a state, it may seem that since prayer touches us so much, it means that we are already spiritually healed and close to holiness. The devil often pushes a person to such distortions - in order to deprive the saving fruit of correct prayer. Of course, special, exalted states also happen in prayer - when the heart of a person is touched by Divine grace - but these states cannot be "predicted" or, moreover, achieved by artificial means of self-excitation.

6. Prayer should not lead a person into a state of ecstasy

It is not necessary to explain that "dancing with tambourines" while reading prayers is unacceptable. It will be more important to say that it is impossible to engage in mechanical, constant, meaningless repetition of some kind of prayer, without understanding its content, without a repentant feeling, like reading mantras or spells - until a state of ecstasy comes, an altered consciousness.

7. It is better to pray in front of holy icons

Perhaps not everyone knows - but in the spiritual tradition of the Orthodox Church it is not customary to pray with closed eyes - unless there is some special need for it. The mind does not tolerate imagelessness. When we are not looking at anything, our mind begins to create various images and ideas. In some cases, it can even be very pleasant - but if we pray in this way, we can easily get carried away, and then our prayer will go into a dreamy, fantasy area. That is why there are holy icons, looking at which, we direct our thoughts to the One to whom we turn.

8. Prayer must have an addressee

Such, so to speak, "addressees" can be the Lord God, glorified in the Holy Trinity, the Most Pure Theotokos, the holy and heavenly powers incorporeal. No other "addressees" in a Christian's prayer are allowed. For example, we do not pray to the dead ourselves - we pray to the Lord God for their repose. We cannot refer to "mother damp earth", to the blue sky, green grass, fire - and everything that can be found in a pagan ritual. Even if you read prayers with people who seem to be church, Orthodox, but you meet something similar, you need to stop and point out the inadmissibility of this. Such “prayers” have nothing to do with Christianity.

9. Prayer Cannot Place Conditions on God

Prayer is an opportunity for verbal communication with God, which only a person has. Yes, all creation glorifies its Creator, but only man is given an exceptional opportunity to address God with a reasonable word. Prayer is, first of all, communication between man and God. But if in prayer a person begins to set conditions for the Lord God, there will be more pagan magic in it than Christian fear of God and reverence.

10. There can be no joy in prayer for other people's troubles.

There are three main tonalities of prayers. This is thanksgiving or glorification, petition and repentance. Everything that goes beyond this, everything that is the result of a passionate, angry or offended state of a person, is completely unacceptable in a Christian's prayer. For example, a desire for revenge, a curse, or a request that God punish a person, gloating, false gratitude to God for sending this or that misfortune to a person, and other things like that.

11. Prayer should not be formal.

You can’t read the holy words anyhow, in order to put a tick: “I reported.” If you don’t feel like praying, if it seems that there is no time, effort, or opportunity for this, then it’s better not to subtract full rule, it is better to devote less time to prayer - but turn to God sincerely, as it should. However, I note that the reduction of prayers should not become the rule.

The holy fathers said this: God will not hear those prayers that we ourselves do not hear. It is clear that the Lord knows all our petitions even before we begin to pray - but if we are inattentive, if we indifferently recite prayers, just to perform some rite, some formality - of course, the value of our words is close to zero.

12. Prayer cannot be meaningless

Before turning to God or to the saints, we must at least prepare ourselves a little, reflect on who we are sending our petitions to and what their essence is. Often people with many years of experience in the Church become so accustomed to prayer that they begin to read it automatically. And from the repetition of words, the meaning of which is absolutely incomprehensible or “blurred” by their familiarity, the prayer will not become strong. Prayer is not a magic spell, which in itself has special power. It cannot be meaningless, thoughtless. The Apostle Paul says: I will pray with the spirit, I will also pray with the mind; I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding (1 Cor 14:15). It is necessary to try to enclose the mind in the words of prayer.

You can turn to God in any situation and with the help of any words - this, in any case, will be considered a prayer. If the prayer is sincere and offered from a pure heart, the Lord will hear it, and help will be provided exactly when it is the best for you. Often a person is offended by God because what is asked is not given immediately. The Creator may have a special plan that does not correspond to the asker's own will. How to pray?
