The RD-54 airborne backpack is a model of a tactical backpack with a body kit, created in the USSR for airborne units, taking into account the use in parachuting. The product is made of avizent material and includes: the main satchel, bags for magazines and grenades, shoulder straps, a case for a sapper shovel.

The design of the backpack is based on a light wire frame to maintain a rectangular shape. The backpack easily fits a gas mask, explosives, a set of OZK and personal items. It has a lid at the top as well as three valves. Shoulder straps with quilted pads perform an additional fastening function for hanging bags.

It is not possible to buy an RD-54 paratrooper backpack everywhere, but in our store it can be purchased at a bargain price.

In its base, the product has the design of the well-known, time-tested satchel of a paratrooper paratrooper RD-54.

Volume:

  • General - 13.5 liters
  • Side pockets - 3 liters (2 x 1.5)
  • Pot pocket - 2.25 liters
  • Main compartment - 8.25 liters

RD-11 retained the traditional appearance and, in part, the layout of the RD-54 sample. At the same time, significant functional changes were also made to the design of the product. The knapsack lost its ability to be used during landing, however, it received a simplified design.

The product was based on a closed load-bearing frame made of belt bands, which is a traditional design solution for many products developed and manufactured by Zastava. This scheme provides maximum operational strength of the product. The carcass tapes are simultaneously also summers for fastening external loads. With their help, various rolls of soft objects can be fixed on the outer part of the satchel: a warm jacket, a camouflage net, a sleeping bag, etc. A rocket-propelled flamethrower or a rocket-propelled grenade can be carried on the lower mount.

The satchel specifically does not have integrated soft shoulder pads. This is done so that when worn over combat equipment (for example, over the soft shoulder pads of a tactical vest), an unnecessarily thick "sandwich" is not created, which interferes with the butt when firing from an individual weapon and restricts the freedom of movement of the hands.

Instead of the toggle clasps used on the RD-54, the new satchel received simple, reliable and silent "Beloomut" clasps on the covers of the main volume and side pockets. The lids of the pockets for the pot and the shovel are closed with a contact tape (the so-called "Velcro"). To prevent rubbing the cover of the pocket for a shovel with its blade, a leather reinforcement is sewn onto the cover from the inside.

Various items can be inserted into the gap between the main volume of the satchel and its side pockets: pickaxe, machete, etc. The left slot is made through (without a bottom), the right one is blind (with a bottom, like a pocket)

The right strap of the satchel in its lower part is equipped with an element quick reset. Handles are made on the back and front surfaces, which can be used both for transporting the satchel and for transporting the victim with the satchel on.

Unlike the RD-54, the RD-11 has an external pocket for storing a combined-arms or combined landing can and a small infantry shovel. This allows you to free up the main volume of the backpack for storing ammunition and other items of personal combat equipment. In this case, the food ration can be compactly stowed inside the field pot.

The location of the infantry shovel on the front surface of the knapsack with the handle down was carefully tested for convenience when operating with the knapsack on. Despite all the originality of the layout solution, there were no complaints about the place and method of location of the shovel.

Purpose and device of the backpack

The backpack is designed to accommodate and carry items of combat equipment in it, which the paratrooper takes when landing behind enemy lines. The backpack is conveniently placed on the parachutist both during the jump and in combat conditions after landing. Stowing combat equipment in a backpack

When packing items of combat equipment into a backpack, the knapsack of the backpack is filled first. Food is placed at the bottom of the satchel, then a bowler hat, cartridges, chemical protection equipment, a towel, soap and a spoon. For better use of the internal volume of the knapsack, it is allowed to put cartridges and other small items in the bowler hat. It is allowed to put a flask in the satchel.

Then the right side pocket of the satchel is filled. Depending on the specialty of the paratrooper, an anti-tank hand grenade or a grenade for a hand grenade launcher can be placed in the side pocket of the satchel.

Before packing a hand-held anti-tank grenade, you must first unscrew the handle, which fits in the side pocket of the satchel next to the body of the grenade. The fuse of the grenade is placed in a small cell of the partition of the belt bag for grenades.

When equipping a sapper, explosives in checkers are placed in the right side pocket of the satchel. The case with accessories for blasting is placed in the knapsack of the backpack separately from the explosives.

In the right side pocket of the backpack, the machine gunner or submachine gunner places cartridges in packs. It is allowed to put a flask, chemical protection means and other items that do not fit into the satchel in the side pocket.

When filling the knapsack of a backpack, automatic magazines and hand grenades are placed in bags. The shovel is placed in a case or attached to a parachutist in his own bag.

The magazines of the machine are placed in the bag with the lids up, and with the curved side (stiffening ribs) towards the small shovel.

When laying the RG-42 or F-1 hand grenade, the fuse of the grenade is placed in a large cell of the partition of the grenade bag. In the free compartment of the bag, you can place cartridges in packs or accessories for cleaning the machine.

A small shovel fits into a cover for a jump and for combat use. To jump, the shovel is placed with the handle up so that the concave part of the tray is adjacent to the back of the parachutist. The handle of the shovel is inserted into the pocket of the padded jacket of the right shoulder strap. In the combat position, the shovel is placed in the case with the handle down.

Placing a backpack on a paratrooper

Before putting on the backpack, it is necessary to fill it with all the items of combat equipment according to the specialty of the paratrooper, thread the waist belt into the fastening belts of the bag for machine magazines, the shovel case and the bag for hand grenades, put the shovel into the case.

When putting on a backpack, the left hand is first brought under the shoulder straps, then the right, after which the waist belt is fastened.
